Exclude a category if there are no posts? (3 posts)

Is there a way to exclude a category if there are no posts for it? I can manually do this, but was hoping for an 'automatic' option.

What is it doing with a category that doesn't have posts? Is it showing empty list items or something?

Well the categories 'titles' I have hard-coded for now, but I was hoping to find a way to have it only display them (with the css - bold-red) if there were posts tagged as 'current'. Kind of confusing and unless I get really good at php, I think I'm going to have to manually update these. I think I may have to hire someone to show me if what I want is possible.
