Excerpts remove HTML ... Can I reverse that? (2 posts)

    I use a drop cap on the first letter of each post using HTML. I found a WordPress page that gives instructions on adding drop cap to the post edit menu (alongside bold, italic, etc.). That's not the same as embedding HTML in my post, is it?

    I'd like to display post excerpts on my archive pages and retain my drop caps. I'd welcome some input on this. Meanwhile, I'm going to fiddle with the instructions in that link and see if it the quick tag lets me retain the drop cap.

    I'm curious, though, as to why excerpts automatically remove any HTML.

    WordPress automatically strips html tags from excerpts.

    Some themes (e.g. Graphene) have options to retain html tags in excerpts. Otherwise, see this:
