Excel Spreadsheet for Form Answer (4 posts)

    Hey Guys,

I can't for the life of me find information on how to do the following.

I have an excel spreadsheet which I need to pull form answers from. ie; the user selects options from a couple of different dropdown menu's (x and y axis) and the form reveals the answer.

Ideally, a plugin would solve this, but if not, any information at all at this point would be helpful.

    Thanks in Advance everyone.

I don't believe that there's going to be a pre-built plugin for this because it's a pretty specialised request, and there's a lot of variables that are hard to work into a pluign for general release. I'd think that you'd probably want ot write one yourself to get it do actually do what you want it to.

As a starting point, there's a couple of good PHP resources that can interact with Excel documents like http://phpexcel.codeplex.com/ so it's worth having a look at that, as that's what you'll need to work with.

    I see,

thanks for the advice. It's slightly off a wordpress topic now however I'll just seek a little more advice if I may.

So, I'm pretty quick at learning the basics of coding language and I'm sure I could figure it out. What information can you give me that would assist me achieving this? What languages would I look at, set up, etc. Would I need to reference the csv file in sql or something different?

Any advice at this point would be beneficial lol

    thanks

The language that you'll need is PHP. That's what WordPress is built in, and that's what the library that I linked ot is built in (I keep these things the same so that they can operate together easily).

I haven't used that library myself, but I'd guess that you could read it's documentation to see how to use it. That's going to be a lot more informative then any guesses that I could make as to how it might work.
