A disgruntled ex-employee seems to have deleted our passwords, access, and perhaps files. What can be done to restore order? (No, we don’t want to send her to jail….)

  • You may use your hosting access details to reset your WordPress password.

That’s not working. I had to re-register with WP just to get on the forum, but my site won’t accept any username or password.

May I know your website address?

BTW, she deleted that, too, but the ISP is doing an emergency restore. I don’t know how long that will take. We’ll lose 6 days of data. (Hmm. Maybe I do want her to go to jail….)

Can’t you run a restore from a backup with your host?

What host do you use? Do you have any recent backups of both the site files and the database?

The host (Media Temple) has been really great, and they’re going to run an emergency backup. That should restore everything through April 5 … but will that restore our WP log in and password???

First get your hosts to password protect the site from their end, with different credentials

Yea, Media Temple is a very good hosting company. After the do a restore, it should restore all of your site files as well as the database you had.

The database contains everything related to your site, including the users login information and passwords.

That should give you a safe window of time to make the backups you need

Our site seems to be hacked. Again.
I changed my password, but it won’t let me log in.
How long does it take for a new password to propagate?

    Thread Starter bobkillian

    (@bobkillian)

I can’t log in with my new password, since it won’t accept my username. Help!

Did you change all of the passwords after the restore? If your employee had access on April 5th, he/she will have access after the restore.

    Thread Starter bobkillian

    (@bobkillian)

I changed it right after the restore. He may have simply gotten there sooner, I suppose.

I used my login to set up a new password, but WP won’t accept my login when I try to log in.

What about his login? Did you change that?
