   Is there any sort of event plug-in that enables users to post events, something like Facebook.

   Events in Event Calendar 3 are just posts that users could create... http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/event-calendar/

   This plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/calendar/
   says "User groups other than admin can be permitted to manage events"
