Hi and thanks for this plugin.
I'm having major issues with the sitemap-posttype-post.xml (http://www.soulculture.co.uk/sitemap-posttype-post.xml)

Its coming up as blank (i'm using chrome) and also bringing up the following errors and warnings on webmaster.

Parsing error = "We were unable to read your Sitemap. It may contain an entry we are unable to recognize. Please validate your Sitemap before resubmitting."

Invalid XML tag = "This tag was not recognized. Please fix it and resubmit."

Making it unable to be indexed.

    Can anyone help?

Here is my sitemap link: http://www.soulculture.co.uk/sitemap.xml

    Hi,

Accessing your posts sitemap, I see an internal server error. How many posts do you have on your site in total? You might be running into a memory limit...

Do you have access to log files?

    Hi RavanH,
In total on the site we have over 20,000 posts.
I do have access to the log files, what would you suggest I do next to solve this problem?

You could take a look at the log files to see if you have memory related messages there. Visit the blank sitemap and then open the log file and look at the newest entries.

But even without doing that, I'm pretty sure with 20K posts you're probably running out of PHP memory when generating the sitemap. I suggest to try the current development version which has a new option to split posts into yearly or even monthly sitemaps. This should greatly reduce the memory consumption on each sitemap creation.

Uninstall the current plugin. Then download http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/xml-sitemap-feed.zip and use the WordPress Plugins > Add new > Upload tab to install it. Then visit Settings > Reading and change the option "devide by" next to "Include post types: Posts" to "year" or (if that's not enough) "month".

Then refresh the main sitemap index http://www.soulculture.co.uk/sitemap.xml and notice there are (should be) multiple post sitemaps listed. Visit each one to see if they are not running into the memory limit anymore...

Let me know how it goes :)

By the way, the dev version includes pinging Google and Bing on each new post...
