We are running the Multisite 3.0.5 version and trying to upgrade to the most current 3.2.1 I tried doing the auto-upgrade from with wp-admin however we get 2 error messages

    Downloading update from http://wordpress.org/wordpress-3.2.1.zip…

    Unpacking the update…

    Verifying the unpacked files…

    Installing the latest version…

Warning: copy(/home/horsewhi/public_html/wp-register.php) [function.copy]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/horsewhi/public_html/wp-admin/includes/class-wp-filesystem-direct.php on line 200

    Could not copy file.: /home/horsewhi/public_html/wp-register.php

    Installation Failed

Any suggestions? I was contemplating upgrading manually, but wanted to first check on these error messages from the automatic upgrade and also concerned that it will be the same issue with a manual upgrade.

We do have plugins running on this install, but they are all up-to-date. I have already checked with the folks at http://premium.wpmudev.org who created all of the plugins we are using and have been assured that all of the plugins we have installed (all already up-to-date) are compatible with WP Multisite 3.2.1

Any help would be appreciated :-)

No, those errors mean the auto updater cannot copy the files to the right folder. The same thing would happen in a single install, it's not specific to a multisite upgrade - which is exactly the same now.

It;s a common error easily solved by changing folder permissions on the sever. If you do not wish to do that, do a manual upgrade.
