Support » Installing WordPress » Errors after installing WordPress

  • Hello,

    I’m a total newbie to WordPress. Tried to search for the error’s i’m going to write down here, but that didn’t help. I’m feeling very stupid right now. Any help is appreciated, at least to fix my broken down ego 🙂

    I’ve installed wordpress on my account, http://www.killerbee.dds.nl
    Before i’m going to dummy, the PHPinfo file from my provider is located at http://phpinfo.dds.nl

    Well, now the shots:
    I’ve installed WP correctly, at least: that’s what the installation script told me 🙂
    The main index page is broken down. None of the links and the layout is working. Do i have to edit the links on the index page and/or any other pages myself?

    Also, i can’t login for the administration page. It worked after the installation but it gives a 404-error now…

    I’m really stuck, desperate and confused….

    Sorry for any inconvinience caused.

  • Did you ever get an answer to this? On your own or from others?
    I have the exact same problem!

    @harryk,

    Looks like Killerbee’s site is working now. Could you provide a link to yours so we can see what is going on?

    I’m not sure if you can get access to this from outside the local network, but let me know.

    Nope, slammed the door right in my face <rubs nose>. My next questions are these:

    * What version of WP?
    * Did the site ever function as expected previously?
    * Have you installed any plugins?
    * If you have installed plugins, have you tried to deactivate them all and then try the site? If the site comes back to life, reactivate ONE plugin, then test the site, and continue until you discover which plugin causes you grief.

    Hope this gives you something to work with.

    The absolute latest, I downloaded it today.
    It never functioned as expected and I have never (knowingly) installed any plugins. However, in thinking about this, installation was simple as can be, but I think I answered the final question incorrectly. The installer asked for the url of the website but it guessed “localhost”. Should I have entered the actual ip address or ip with path as it would appear in the web browser on some other computer?
    How can I change this without reinstalling?
    If I must reinstall, do I need to delete the database I created with MySQL?

    Thanks very much for your help!

    Thanks NuclearMoose!
    My fix was to install phpmyadmin and edit the path stored in the table wp_options at the record siteurl. Once I changed the record, everything worked.
    Thanks again for your help!

    Yep, that’s also a working option.

    What i did:
    – uninstall WP
    – reinstall it, and saying to the install script in step 4 what my real installation location is (not the local but the relative path). You can choose to give up an install directory and placing the index.php in you’re account’s public_html or www directory. I did something else (both are in public_html).
