I’m trying to upload themes and each time I get this error: You don’t have permission to access /wp-admin/update.php on this server. I’ve never had trouble uploading themes before. Any ideas on what the issue is/how to correct it?

    Can you still upload plugins?

Morning. I’m still having issues w/this. The host suggested I upload via FTP which I did, but still getting the same permissions error.

Check your server’s error logs. The plugin and theme uploader use the same files, so really BOTH should fail.

Also try turning off all your plugins.

Please make sure that you have 755 or 750 as folder permissions and 644 as file permissions for all the WordPress files. Also, when you un-zip plugin and upload folder, the linux sometime changes the permissions for other files too. So, either automatically install plugin from “Add New” option in Dashboard or upload plugin folder and change permissions and then login to wp-admin.

Thanks. I deactivated all plug-ins, then tried again via FTP to upload the themes and it worked.
