[resolved] Error updating WordPress 3.2 (already read manual) (35 posts)

I updated WordPress a few minutes ago via the dashboard (automatic update), but I get an error message: WP 3.2 requires MySQL 5.0 or higher.

I can't go to my admin-menu any more; I keep getting this message whatever I try.

I already erased my plugins but it still doesn't work.

Unfortunately, I read the manual AFTER the update so I haven't got a recent backup (3 of 4 days old) :(.

I hope it's not too difficult to undo the update?

    Thanks!
    Greetz from Belgium!

It's not going to work unless you upgrade to MySQL 5.0 or higher.

Download http://wordpress.org/wordpress-3.1.4.zip and manually install that. It should roll you back. And since you didn't get to the DB upgrade part of things, you should be okay :)

thanks Ipstenu! Are there any recent files that I should save & overwrite so that there will be nothing lost by doing the "old" update?

Generally just overlaying the files from the zip is safe :) It can't overwrite any of your add-ons.

If you want to be extra careful (good on you!), backup all your files, but especially:

    /wp-config.php
    /.htaccess
    /wp-content/ (the whole folder)

OK, another question before trying this: I have a recent backup of all my files of WP 3.1.4; maybe I can upload them again via FTP?

Yeah, you can do that too :) Just in that case DO NOT over-write the wp-content folder! You run the risk of losing your image uploads if you do that.

Thanx! I updated the root and admin section, not wp-includes and wp-content. But now I'm getting a "not-found" page. I already deleted all tmp's, cookies etc. and refreshed the screen by Ctrl+F5. HELP!

Getting a not found on ... what?

    Everything? Just a couple pages?

http://www.kimbols.be/ comes up okay for me.

Go in via FTP to wp-content and rename plugins to plugins-old

OK, but now I'm getting this message: W3 Total Cache Error: some files appear to be missing or out of place. Please re-install plugin or remove /var/www/html/wordpress/wp-content/advanced-cache.php.

Rename that file to advanced-cache.old for now. Just to get you back IN.

Hmm, now this error message :

I renamed db.php and also object-cache.php because I got the message to rename that file, but after that, I'm getting again the 500 error

I have a similar problem. I had moved my blog over to my base url while leaving the files in a /blog folder. everything worked fine until I did the update to 3.2. Now my blog is accessible as before but I can't access the dashboard. It wants to go to /blog but there is nothing there (empty page). If I change the url to remove /blog it gives a page not found.

Any help would be appreciated, this is so frustrating.

Yeah, really frustrating hé; I can't update my site now and I really hope someone knows the tip how to fix this problem!

Same problem here. I've tried deleting contents of .htaccess as mentioned elsewhere and renamed plugin folder. Nothing seems to help. Hope there's a fix out there somewhere.

Tweet This broke 3.2 for me - both admin and site disappeared with a 500 error. Thanks for the tip Ipstenu!

Just found my problem - Arras theme. So if anyone's having a problem try renaming the themes folder to themes-old or something.

Folks, make your OWN topics (but read the master list first - Arras theme is listed there as a known issue).

It looks like both the sites having this issue (Miske and Calgary) have WP in a sub folder but running from root, which is pretty standard and something I know what tested...

Can you check what version of PHP your server is running?

Apologies, Ipstenu. I was too reliant on Google which bought me here. Unfortunately I was on in full-on headless chicken mode trying to find a solution. So didn't take time to pause, breath and look properly.

@Ipstenu: Maybe this is interesting information about my problem?

    PHP is good.

I'm going to flag this for higher support. I'm stumped!

Thanks Ipstenu! I contacted a sighted friend (I'm totally blind) to help me with this too ... Unfortunately, he can't fix the problem either at this moment ... He downloaded the previous version but the admin-section still shows the 500 internal server error (see above), grrr!
