In "General Settings," when remove "/admin" from WordPress address and Blog address, I get the following error message on any page I try to navigate to:
"The requested URL /wp-login.php was not found on this server"
As a related issue, my registered URL directs to an index page, not the page being created in WordPress. My hosting company offers WordPress as part of their package, so WP is housed in my account with them.
For examples, see:

I'm a novice, please help.
It looks like WordPress has been installed in an admin sub-folder on your site. You could leave it there and still have it running our main domain name.

Per the instructions, I changed the url. I got the following error:
Not Found
The requested URL /wp-login.php was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Navigation to all other pages yields the same error.
When I change the url back to the original, the problem persists. I can't even logout.
