I need help ASAP!! I was trying to add some code to functions.php, and it didn’t seem to work so I removed the code.

HOWEVER, now I get an error message when I try to access my website (cloakandcurio.com) and my wp-admin dashboard.

I need to get this site up this weekend and everything was set to go. Is there someone who can help me?? I read that I should reload functions.php, but I can’t even access the plugin editor in order to do this through my dashboard.

I’m feeling a little bit desperate at the moment, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Deactivate all plugins and revert to Twenty Eleven theme. Use FTP or your hosting control panel to deactivate (rename to old) plugins and themes except Twenty Eleven.

Try switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

Once you have access to your site again, try re-uploading your chosen theme.

Thank you both for replying so quickly. I hate to even ask the question, but will I lose all the products and images that I already uploaded to my site?

    I feel ill.

No – they should remain in your site’s database.

Ok…I feel a bit better. I think I need your help a bit more if you have a moment, @ esmi.

I found wp-content/themes in my host’s file management application. It looks like I can select my current theme and just reload it. Would this also work to fix my broken functions.php?

Yes but I would suggest that you delete the theme’s folder within wp-content/themes before uploading a fresh copy. Sometimes over-writing doesn’t always work.

    I FIXED IT!!!!!

@ esme – you led me in the right direction, but I tried something a little different.

I uploaded the original functions.php from my computer to my host’s file management application and overwrote the file that I screwed up. I can now see my site again and I can access my dashboard.

Thank you for helping me out!

    Glad I could help. 🙂

how do you switch to Twenty Eleven if you can’t access the site at all?

Maybe this will help you to

    switch back to default theme.
