Error message when uploading images

    When I attempt to upload image files to the WP media library for insert into a post or page, I get this error.

    “An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later.”

    Interestingly, if I reload the page and then look in the media library the image is there.

    The problem is only happening on this site: http://www.guruhabits.com/ All my other sites, which are setup exactly the same, are fine.

    When I deactivate the WP Smush.it plugin, I no longer get the error message.

    Does anyone have a fix for this?

    Hi @b-p

    Can you enable debugging? Go to Settings > Media > tick the box to enable debugging then click Save Changes.

    Then try again and you should get an error log, please post this error log here.

    Hey Mike,

    Thanks your quick response.

    It was already enabled and no error log was present. So I disabled and then enabled it 3 times and still no error log.

    I assume that I’d see the log on the same page.

    Am I missing something?

    Yeah you would see errors when trying to smush images. Did you try doing a bulk smush after enabling debugging?

    Not really. The image URL is public information. If the image is user on any of your pages for example, that same URL is used within the HTML of the page.

    Regardless of the path information I’m more interested in the reply information from Smush.it API. Which will look something like

    Sorry to be a pain (I’m not a super techie), but I’m not finding anything like your example with API etc. in it. Where exactly do I find this log?

    My concern was that the log I found, which I provided a partial example of, shows the path all the way to the root directory on my host’s server. I have the path setup differently than typical WP installations for security purposes. I’d be okay with sending this one to you privately though, if you want.

    @b-p,

    If the image file has already been processed you will not see the API part of the debug output. You need to upload fresh images.

    Uploaded image via Media library and got the error log shown below. It appears to include the API part. Image never completed uploading. Just kept showing the word “Crunching…” with blue background in upper right corner.

    NOTE: When I attempt to upload an image via page for insert, I get the error mentioned at the top of this tread.

    Hello!

    I got the same issue. When I’m uploading images from “Posts>Add New>Add Media” I got this error. (enabled automatic smush when uploading, wait time set 120 seconds, my VPS also support 120 seconds)

    If I upload it Media>Add file. After it’s uploaded continuously shows “Crunching…” message. If I wait 30 minutes, it’s not change that message. If I refresh the page, it shows uploaded and Reduced by xx%.

    @rsss,

    you should only have the debug output enabled for Smush.it when using the Bulk Smush.it processing via Media > Bulk Smush.ir. If you have debug output turned on for either Media > Library > Add or Post > Media > Add you will get errors. The reason for this is the upload and process is done via AJAX. So when WordPress sees the Smush.it debug output from the upload processing it thinks an error occurred.

    Eureka! That was the problem. Once I disabled “Debug Processing” at > Media > Settings > no more errors. Simple!

    It’s kinda funny though, because I don’t remember enabling it.
