I was changing themes for my blog and now I have a lovely error message at the top of the of my blog. And when I try log in as admin, all I get is a pull page of error messages and no access to my dashboard or anything. HELP!!!

Try switching to the Twenty Ten theme by renaming your current theme's folder in wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

Is this something that I would do from the files that were downloaded onto my computer at home? I am really new at this and very confused.

No. You have to use FTP (see the link above) or similar to access the theme's folder on your site's remote server.
