This whole installation has been a nightmare, and I have run into yet another error.

When I finally got into the first steps and I was emailed the “login” information, when I follow the link that was in the email I got this error:

Warning: main(/hsphere/local/home/lianneyh/maternalalchemy.com/wordpress/wp-admin/wp-includes/wp-db.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /hsphere/local/home/lianneyh/maternalalchemy.com/wordpress/wp-admin/wp-settings.php on line 73

Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required ‘/hsphere/local/home/lianneyh/maternalalchemy.com/wordpress/wp-admin/wp-includes/wp-db.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /hsphere/local/home/lianneyh/maternalalchemy.com/wordpress/wp-admin/wp-settings.php on line 73

Someone tell me it doesn’t have to be this hard!

    Thank you!

    Lianne

  • You installed WP under /wordpress.

Using a FTP program or a file browser provided by your host, navigate to /wordpress/wp-admin/wp-includes and see if the file wp-db.php is present. My guess is, it won’t be there.

Just upload that file from the WP that you downloaded.

The problem is: wp-includes should NOT be in the wp-admin folder! Seemingly your install is not perfect 🙂

On your server you should have 3 separate folders
    wp-admin
    wp-content
    wp-includes
and a lot of files. Is this the case?

So, should the wordpress files NOT be in their own folder, but just floating around in the main directory?

Blessings on all your heads for helping me!

I just copied everything that was in the WordPress download folder without rearranging anything on to my site. I followed the instructions in the download information. Obviously I’m missing some information or some significant IQ.

    thankyou!

    1. Depending on where do you want your blog (WP) to be installed: it could be in the main=root directory of the site, if that’s what you want, or in a folder of your choice (wordpress, blog, myblog…etc.)
In the first case you’d have your blog at yourdomian.com
in the second case you’d have yourdomain.com/blog or yourdomain.com/wordpress etc.

    2. When you unzip the downloaded package make sure it will keep the directory structure – as far as I know all the unzip gizmos let you do that.
You don’t have to re-arrange anything: a properly unzipped package should be uploaded where you want the blog… and it should work withoput any major intervention.
(it’s not a matter of IQ, just experience:)
