• Hi folks, total Newbie here. I’m working on day two of installing wordpress, and I’m determined to make it work. Here’s the problem:

When I go to install wp-admin/install-php, my browser thinks for a bit, then gives me the following error:

“530 – Unable to set anonymous privileges.
    530 – Login incorrect”

Because I’m hopeless, I don’t know what this means.

Can anyone help? I’ve been perusing the boards, but haven’t been able to figure out what to do on my own.

    Thanks! WHL

  • Thta’s strange because 530 is a FTP error.
Are you sure you type in the address line of your browser the proper address as:
    mysite.com/blog/wp-admin/install.php ?

530 is an ftp error meaning you cannot log into your home directory. The error pretty much explains the why of that.

Your web browser is not the best of ftp software, especially when it comes to uploading. Some hosting providers provide an interface for uploading files to your account, but FileZilla is a recommended ftp client around these parts:

Actually, I tried the above line, typing my site’s name in and then the rest, and got a 404 not found error. I think I’ll just have to wait until bluehost customer service opens up tomorrow morning, unless someone has any thoughts.

    thanks!

If 404 – it means the files are not there; you didn’t upload the WP files.
Just read again Kafkaesqui’s post for the solution.

It’s strange. I downloaded transmit (I’m working on a mac) and uploaded the wordpress files and they are at least registering as being on the server, but the install still won’t work. I’ll call bluehost in the morning. Thanks for all the help.
