Error importing wordpress.com blog to self-hosted

    Simply trying to import an .xml export of a WordPress.org blog, to a self hosted wordpress installation.

    Getting a page full of errors:

    Perhaps the theme you were using on wordpress.com used post types that are not in your wordpress.org theme?

    I like kjodle’s idea. I’ve always had to do a lot of cleanup with the importer. Lately I found this plugin WP Clone that does a great job. Not sure if you can use it on WP.com but it works great if you can.

    Thanks for the info on that plugin. Quite frankly, I have always found the WP export/import process to be…not buggy, but less than even close to satisfactory.

    Not sure if you can use it on WP.com

    I believe that wp.com also has export functions, so it’s worth a shot.

    Thanks for the input — when you say “post types” what exactly do you mean? Looking at an existing post on the WordPress.com blog, it says “Format: Standard” — is that it, or something else?

    I’ve just installed WP Clone on the new site, but it seems like using that to export the old / import to the new will overwrite all of the hours of work I just did on the new site. Am I wrong about that?
