Error establishing a database connection (Install) (8 posts)

    That's the error I get when I load up the install.php file on the server.

    I've made sure the username, password and database is correct and it still won't work.

    Is there anything else in the file I needed to edit? I just left the rest as it was.

    Well what do I do?

    If I access it via http://www.domain.com/wp-admin/install.php it displays that error.

    If I access the install.php file via the ftp, I get all this:

    '.__('Already Installed').'

    '.__('You appear to have already installed WordPress. To reinstall please clear your old database tables first.').'
    ');} switch($step) { case 0: case 1: // in case people are directly linking to this display_header(); ?>

    I'm trying to install it to byethost.com BTW.

    I just found this thread: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/124019?replies=2

    This person says they edited the localhost... so what would I put there?

    Did you ever figure out what to use as the host name? If so, what? I'm having the same problem.

    @ adunate - last I saw bytehost used localhost as DB_HOST value.

    Is that the host you are using?

    Please review Editing wp-config.php

    I am having the same problem :( My host is bluehost, any help would be appreciated

    Bluehost will use DB_HOST value of localhost. Otherwise check the other values in your wp-config.php. If you are convinced they are correct then contact BlueHost to insure your database server is running.
