    Hi Guys,

I have recently started recieving this error message on my screen can someone please help me out?

    Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host's database server is down.

Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you're unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

    Thanks,
    Brandon

If the site has been working properly, and this started just recently, then we can probably rule these two suggestions out:

"Are you sure you have the correct username and password?"

"Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?"

...that is, unless you recently edited wp-config.php, changed anything with your database or database user, or relocated.

That leaves this one: "Are you sure that the database server is running?"

Contact your host and have them confirm that the database server is operating correctly. They can also tell you if they may have recently made any changes or had any issues that might affect your ability to connect.
