    Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at mysql. This could mean your host's database server is down.

    * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?

    BACKGROUND
Wordpress set up on site and a few entries were made.
Login does not come up.. so perhaps the database server is not running. How do you turn on the database server? How do your verify if the database server is turned on?

Sounds like it could be a server issue. This often happens when a server is experiencing dificulties. Keep trying it and if it doesn't connect soon, I would recommend contacting your host.

I too have the same issue. It connects to the database some time and other it does not. I did some research and this is the reply from my host:
"This issue is the result of a miss-configuration in WordPress. The issue is related to problem with WordPress not understanding the If-Modified-Since tag. Unfortunately because this is a 3rd party script we cannot help you correct the issue".

If you go to the blog it seems to be running fine until you move around a few times back and forth and clicking on the links. Eventually it poops out.

Any help would be nice! Thanks a lot.
