Error establishing a database connection (4 posts)

    I don't know anything about SQL programing or syntax. So the installation instructions that come with WordPress just don't help me.

    I created a MySQL database, user, and password on my web hosting server. I filled this information into the wp-configsample document, but I wasn't quite sure where.

    I changed
    define('DB_NAME', 'wordpress'); to define('DB_NAME', 'MyDatbase');
    define('DB_USER', 'username'); to define('DB_USER', 'Myusername');
    define('DB_PASSWORD', 'password'); to define('DB_PASSWORD', 'MyPassword');

    I tried to leave define('DB_HOST', 'localhost'); as it was, but when that didn't work, changed 'localhost' into a server address where the databases are kept.

    I keep getting the message -

    Error establishing a database connection
    This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at blah blah.

    Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    Are you sure that the database server is running?

    I really need help. There should be a faq on this question. Written in plain language.

    there is :)

    You really don't need to know any sql / php or anything complex to get WP going.
    Are you using cpanel ? vdeck ? Plesk ?
