Error establishing a database connection (4 posts)

    Hi all,

I have successfully set up several WP installs using WP/Godaddy but tonight I received the above referenced error when trying to run the install script.

I downloaded a fresh WP in zip form, setup a MySQL database through the Godaddy database setup, viewed the connection strings, renamed the wp-config-sample.php to wp-config.php, inserted the correct connection strings, uploaded in the root of my domain, and ran the install url. I was presented with the Error establishing a database connection message.

After checking and re-checking my connection strings, and deleting and re-uploading WP to the root, I am still confronted with the same message. I called Godaddy and they verified that the connection string I'm using are correct.

Is it possible that something had gotten changed in the WP files before I downloaded that may be broken?

Any help to go further is very appreciated:)

    1. Verify that the four pieces of information you placed in wp-config.php are correct. DB_HOST on godaddy will be like mysql249.secureserver.net.

    2. Use the Godaddy phpMyAdmin instructions to access the database

    3. Consider that the database server is really down--check with godaddy at this US number 408-505-8877

    Michael,

Thanks for your advice but I have already done all you suggest (as written in my original post).

I have found a solution, although the cause is still a mystery...

I simply deleted the original database and created a new one through the Godday Admin area. I used the new connection strings in my wp-config.php file and the installation went fine.

I can only assume that there was some kind of corruption somewhere along the line when I created the first database.

If it happens again, see if you can use phpMyAdmin to access that database.
