home.php is a page template in your theme…

Using a backup or a copy of home.php from the version of theme in use, replace home.php with an unedited file using FTP or your host’s file manager…you can first rename the existing home.php to old-home.php if you have other edits to review and replace..

If you have admin access, you can also revert any improper edits to this file at:

Admin dashboard>Appearance>Editor>make sure your theme is selected at top right>click on the template file home.php

Note: direct edits to theme files are lost on theme update(s)…which is why using a Child Theme is recommended..

Did you code the site? When you click on that it shows you the error Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘}’ in /home/best1cleaning/public_html/wp-content/themes/catch-everest/home.php on line 56

    Can you fix that?

i’m not sure how to fix it.

I’m assuming you are not a coder or know how to use an editor?

Catch Everest is a very attractive theme. The problem however, seems to be that there actually is no “line 56” in the home.php file for that theme. The file terminates at line 55 with this: get_footer(); ?>

The quickest solution (or at least the fastest diagnostic step) may be to simply replace the home.php file with a fresh copy, or just reinstall the entire theme from your backup copy.

right i’m with you now, the theme has been altered by the people that put the site together, so i didn’t want to update the theme incase it removed all the things that i’ve added over the past few weeks.

    hi graphical force

no i’m not a coder, but i am learning slowly.

I can only assume that you have probably prepared for that eventuality by making and keeping regular backups of your site files and any modified content.

No problem. It looks like ClaytonJames has the best idea. One thing to remember is that if the home page has been altered, it may be overwritten if you put a fresh copy in. But again, ClaytonJames gave some sound advice about using a child theme. If you look at your themes which one is activated?

    Thread Starter cruiser76

    (@cruiser76)

yes it is running a child theme, the site gets backed up daily by the people that host it for me.

i think i should download a FTP program and do the edits of line would that be the best thing.

What version of the Catch Everest theme are you using? Is it the most current?

    Thread Starter cruiser76

    (@cruiser76)

it’s asking me to update it now, so no it must be an old version, the site has only been changed over to wordpress for about 2 weeks, so i’m just getting used to it.

i just don’t want to risk the site going down because i did an update.

If you feel that this is too much, you could always post in Wp Jobs to get some help. It’s very hard for us to help you since there are many variables that can effect the outcome.

if i go into the blog page and re-edit the url will that bring it back to normal.
