   When i try to activate the plug in the next screen after clicking activate shows the following:

   "Error 500 - Internal server error
   An internal server error has occured!
   Please try again later."

   If I hit the back arrow on my browser the plug-in page returns showing Buddy Press in a inactive state

   sounds like you do not meet the requirements to run the plug in. I got this when I needed php 5 for a plug in...
