This morning, my old version of WP stopped working. When I tried to get to the login page, I kept getting “Error 500” messages. Since I hadn’t really done much work it it, I thought, what the heck, I’ll start over. So I deleted the DB, deleted all the files, downloaded the newest version (2.9.1) and FTPd all my files, created a DB, did the 5 minute install and voila! It was working. Now, whenever I try to install activate new plugin, I get 500 error again. If I try to install it through WordPress, it says “unpacking files” yet the page has stopped loading and nothign is happening. Help?

  • Did this happen last time with the same plugin? If so, that could be the issue – but I can’t be sure.

Go into your FTP and delete any plugins you have added. Then clear your browser’s cache/history/cookies. Do you still get a 500 error?

Hmmm yes it seems to only be with that plugin… I will take it up with the creators of the plugin. Thanks for the tip!
