Support » Installing WordPress » en_US.mo not included with 1.5.1 distribution

  • I just installed WP for the first time and encountered a PHP error that …wp-includes/wp-l10n.php cannot find …wp-includes/languages/en_US.mo. I verified that there was no such file or directory in the tarball. I then downloaded the 1.2.1 distribution from SourceForge and there was also no languages directory.

I don’t think there were instructions in the install documents about installing/downloading the default language file…

Wah-happend? Any help would be appreciated

  • If your language is English and you will blog in English, there is no need for a language directory or .mo file

Right… or so I thought but I am getting the error:
    Warning: stat failed for /a/samson/usr/exports/webpages/
thinkgoodthoughts/wp-includes/languages/en_US.mo (errno=2 - No such file or directory) in /a/samson/usr/exports/webpages/thinkgoodthoughts
    /wp-includes/wp-l10n.php on line 71

What is in your wp-config.php file ?
    It should say this
    define ('WPLANG', '');

    Does yours ?

Yes… verified that this is as you have written it.

May I ask where you got the download and where you are hosted ?

I got the download from http://wordpress.org/download/ and I own the hosting environment at http://www.pyramus.com.

This is hosted on FreeBSD with Apache 1.3 and PHP 4.0. Have complete control over this environment so if you have suggestions for reconfig, hit me with your best shot 😉

    Apparently …. it’s the phpversion.
It needs to be at least 4.1

(I have no idea why !)

I’d highly recommend you upgrade to 4.1 at the very least, 4.3.10 would be the best choice. That might fix the problem, although I’m not sure how you managed to install it while running 4.0

    Whoops… my server reports

    Apache/1.3.26 (Unix) PHP/4.1.0 mod_ssl/2.8.10

Why is it trying to find a file that does not exist? I am not sure why the PHP version would cause a filestat error. In any case it is 4.1.

I’m having the same problems with 1.5.2 that I just installed tonight. I’m using PHP 4.1 (with a Plesk installation) and I’m getting the same error message that Playmaker was getting as well as the complete inability to log into the Admin panel. Any ideas?

    I’m having the same problem:

Warning: Unable to access /kunder/web-668/hva.nu/www/blog/wp-includes/languages/en_US.mo in /kunder/web-668/hva.nu/www/blog/wp-includes/wp-l10n.php on line 71

I’ve installed it to be used in english, therefore no languagepack needed… And as rhastings I can’t log into admin module at all ?

Anyone with a fix or solution ???

    /CAL

I am having the same problem:

What is the solution? I need this resolved or the software is useless and I would need a refund.

I have posted before but no solution. Please let me know.

Yeah, we’ll get right on that refund of $0.

Upgrade your PHP version. That would be my suggestion. I’d go up to PHP 5 if you can.
