   According to your topic title, you are running WP v2.0-beta2. If that is true, please upgrade to the final release of WP v2.0.

   The answer is that the location of the files has moved.

   In version 2.0 these are in the /wp-includes/images/smilies directory.

   In version 1.5.2 they were in /wp-images/smilies directory.

   So some editing is needed:

   I'm having this same problem. The names of the emoticons appear (using wp_grins) but the picture of the emoticon does not until the comment is saved or post is saved.
