Embed images for retina display (3 posts)

    I'm currently working on my new WordPress site. But I want to embed all my images, and that's is going fine, but I want to make them look nice on a retina display.

    What's the easiest way to do this with embedded images? Right now I embed them like this.

    <img alt="image" src="http://www.image.com/image.jpg" width="500" />

    I'm using the width to control the size, so if the original image is 1000 pixels, and I scale it to 500 pixels using the width. Will it work?

    Scaling does work but it's not so effective as on smaller devices you are still serving a large image (not that desirable).

    There are a number though of plugin options for retina:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-retina-2x/
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/hammy/ (not just about retina about delivering different sizes based on content area)
    are two options.

    Okay so the scaling method works fine, but on small devices the load time will be to long?

    If i'm getting this right, the problem isn't showing high-res images on a retina screen, but it's about showing the size needed to give a shorter load time?

    Thanks for the links, i'll give them a try.
