• It’s a good plug-in and seems well behaved, but…

    1) The “group” email is based on wordpress groups, and in general I don’t find it very useful (ie — almost always one of the editors is an admin as well, so selecting editors misses that person).

    2) The “post notification” email is set and none-editable (really — perhaps you might want to tell everyone WHY they should take a look at the post).

    3) A recent update to the plug in removed pre-fixing the post with the site name ( [xxx] ) which should really be settable in a configuration option (on/off; default to site name — but editable).

Like I said, the plug-in does work; and it’s useful… but it could be much better; and on my list to re-engineer it if the author doesn’t improve it.

Regarding #1, what should it be based on? WordPress Roles are native functionality so it makes sense to support them. Additionally, Email Users has built in integration with two other WordPress “group management” plugins:

    1. User Groups
    2. User Access Manager

Regarding #2, there is a template on the plugin settings page where you can change the content of the email sent on a post or page notification. It also supports a number of keyword substitutions which our outlined on the settings page as well. Could it have a WordPress Visual Editor style entry box pre-populated with the template content? Sure. I’ll put it on my “to-do” list to add at some point.

Regarding #3, that functionality is still there – the Default Notification Subject on the plugin settings page also supports keyword substitution which is how you get the name of the site as part of the subject. If you reset the plugin to use the default settings, the notification subject will be:

    [%BLOG_NAME%] A post of interest: "%POST_TITLE%"

If you have improvements you are welcome to submit a patch and I’ll consider including it. There is no need to fork and re-engineer unless that is something you just want to do.
