email help... (3 posts)

    Hi there,

I am completely stumped. I'm pretty new to WordPress and so I'm not quite sure what I'm doing. My host is bluehost, and my website is annagibson.com/duke/eng25 -- a blog for a class I'm teaching. I can't get wordpress to send emails. I need students to register as authors on the blog, but when I test registration (and check the box to email a password), no email arrives. When I do "forgot my password," I get the following error: "The e-mail could not be sent.
Possible reason: your host may have disabled the mail() function." I also don't receive emails when new comments appear (despite having selected that option).

I have tried looking on forums for a solution. I tried downloading the WP Mail SMTP plugin (http://www.callum-macdonald.com/code/wp-mail-smtp/) and filling out the requisite details to send from my gmail address (following the directions on callum macdonald's page), but when I try sending a test message, I get a long failure to connect to SMTP server message. I have no idea what to do. I read somewhere that one option is to reconfigure the PHP mail() in the php.ini, but I have no idea what this is or how to find it.

I really don't care which email address the emails come from; I just want them to send!

I would really appreciate any help anyone can offer. I'm completely confused.

    Thanks...

    Anna Gibson

When you setup whatever email address you configure it to come from, don't use a gmail, or hotmail, or any other such address. Use an address which you have created on your hosting account. Make sure the email address actually exists in the Email Accounts icon in your cPanel.
