Email disabled? Then why is it in my cron?

I know the description page for this plugin says,
Email notifications are disabled by default.
But in my cron, there’s a job called “Elm_Plugin_emailErrors_hook” that is scheduled to run every 3600 seconds.
If I don’t enable the notifications by entering an email address, is there a reason why this needs to run?
