I think the repetitive "WordPress 2.6.2 is available! Please update now." message is not consistent with the gentle spirit of WordPress. Life is complicated enough for everyone without being hounded by repetitive, mostly immaterial, messages.

A user should be able to acknowledge the message once and then it should disappear forever. This in-your-face message is to me over-bearing and a nuisance.

Good news, there's a plugin for you: Disable WordPress Core Update.

Just install it, but don't activate it. To 'acknowledge' an update message, activate the plugin and the message will go away. Once you've updated, deactivate the plugin and you'll be told next time there's an update available.

    Just don't forget to update!
