This is the strangest thing....
I was updating a page on my WP site and everything was fine. Went back to make another edit and it locks me into HTML editor and does not display kitchen sink/edit toolbar at top.
I have deactivated plugins to see if that did it. Nope
I restored backup files from earlier in the morning. Nope
Help! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Check that the rich-text editor has not been disabled in your Profile.

Nope thats not it.
Update: So it seems that if I activate the default WP theme, then click to add a post in this theme, the kitchen sink is there. And then I can activate my current theme and it goes back. But as soon as I go back into HTML editor the same thing happens. I get no kitchen sink and it locks me out of visual editor.
This is so frustrating!
Sounds like there's a problem with your chosen theme. And, yes, themes can affect the Admin area of a site.
