Support » Fixing WordPress » Editor lacks "cancel" button, leading to locked pages and posts

  • I’ve been having a problem with post locking. I’ve noticed if I load a post into the editor but change my mind and decide not to edit it, there is no way to cancel the editing session. I can navigate away from the editor, of course, but that leaves the page locked for other users.

In fact, I’ve found that most of the time when I’m confronted with a locked page, that’s exactly what has happened – someone else has viewed the post in the editor with no intent to alter it and, lacking a “cancel” button, they cancel the edit by navigating away from the editor to another wordpress page.

I’ve also noticed that once the page is loaded in the editor is seems to produce some sort of a backup, so that if you navigate away but go to edit the page again another time, it complains about a saved draft that’s newer than the live page.

It seems like the addition of a “cancel” or “abort” button on the editor would be an easy fix to these problems. Or is there something I’m missing like an existing “cancel edit” button that’s just not turned on by default?
