Editing themes via admin panel

    I am trying to edit my themes via the admin panel but have only way is to change the index.php file to 777 via php and then change it back to 644. If I change the permission to only editable by owner it won’t allow me to make changes via the admin panel.

    Is there a way around this as it is easier to change the file in the admin panel so that I can see the effects

    that is a host issue with some servers not allowing to edit at 644 – 666 will work, also but is not secure

    I just download files to my desktop – modify – re upload
