• Earlier on today my Dashboard told me there was an update to a theme i wasnt using so i hit update , since then i’ve not been able to do anything with the theme i’m using.

When i edit something the site stays exactly the same even if i try looking at the site on a different PC.

Does anybody know a reason why this would happen ?

    Thanks

  • What Theme are you using?

    What Theme did you update?

What happens if you delete the Theme you updated, but aren’t using?

I’m using the Education Child Theme

    I updated Genesis by StudioPress

and lastly Warning: require_once(/home/blackout/public_html/wp-content/themes/genesis/lib/init.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/blackout/public_html/wp-content/themes/education/functions.php on line 3

    Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘/home/blackout/public_html/wp-content/themes/genesis/lib/init.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/blackout/public_html/wp-content/themes/education/functions.php on line 3

Ok this is weird now lol , i put the theme back and now the site is working fine , but i have a strange feeling that if i update it again its going to screw with everything again .

Now i dont know what to do for the best.

    Genesis
You have version 1.6.1 installed. Update to 1.7.

I’m tempted to update it again to see if it does it again , the worse that can happen is that it does and i just delete and reinstall the old directory again.

Still be nice to know why the update causes it though.

Okay, so information that would have been useful up-front:

    1) You’re using a Child Theme
    2) The Parent Theme for your Child Theme is Genesis

So, even though you don’t think you’re using the Genesis Theme; in reality, you are using it. If you remove the Parent, then the Child will stop working.

Generally, if you’re using a Child Theme, you are safe to update the Parent Theme. However, it is possible that updates to the Parent Theme could cause problems with the Child Theme.

And finally: Genesis is a commercial Theme, developed by StudioPress, whose support offerings you should consult for specific help with this Theme.

Yeah sorry about the lack of info , i didnt actually know the Genesis Theme had anything to do with the one i am using , got the whole thing dumped on me about a week ago to sort out and i’ve had to start learning, now i’ve learned something new , basically dont delete that file lol

I’m going to update it again tomorrow and see if it was just a glitch with the update , at least now i know i can get it back to normal if it all goes wrong again.

If it does all go wrong i’ll contact StudioPress.

    Thanks Chip for your help

I’m so glad i found this forum or i’d be totally lost to be honest.
