Editing Spanish Translation

    I am running wordpress with a Spanish traslation (file es_ES.MO) It is working fine except that there are some traslated terms which I do not entirely agree with. What would it take for me to edit the translation ? Is it necessary to have the PO file ? If so, where and how can I get it?
