editing page.php to make it seem like true html files (2 posts)

Recently I changed from the default theme to the portraitpress theme. My original site was a hybdrid of static html pages and a wordpress blog. Somehow I need to get my original material on the static pages into wordpress. I know I can do this via pages. When I copy the html and paste it into the html code view and go to view the page it sometimes messes up the bottom half of the page. I think this may have something to do with the original website template. Also, I don't like how when you view a page you still have some of the original wordpress formatting (leave a response, etc.). Can I feasibly take these out? Is there a more practical way of doing this?

There shouldn't be any comment or category related stuff in any Page template (aka page.php). You should edit your Page template as you like. You can even have many, many Page templates. See the Codex: Pages.

As a side note: make sure you copy over ONLY the content from your former html pages: not the header, not the body tags etc.
