Editing of Twenty Eleven 1.2 Theme (12 posts)

    Evening,

    OK need a little help, have managed to figure out a few things myself and customised the footer and such however the two things preventing this theme from being exactly what we want are this:

    1. How can we get rid of the white area at the top of the header that has the search box on it? Can we make it transparent and if not can we get rid? (Post code needed and file to edit please)

    2. How can we get the text to be wider area, it's a bit narrow on this theme and ideally I want the pages to be able to use that full width or most of it rather than just the area in the middle. You'll see what I mean on the home page, I want it to be able to be close to the width of the entire white area. (Post code needed and file to edit please)

    The site is here http://www.lincolnshireairsoftclub.co.uk

    Much appreciated guys.

    Do not edit the Twenty Eleven theme. It is the default WordPress 3.2 theme and having access to an unedited version of the theme is vital when dealing with a range of site issues.

    For this reason, it is recommended that you consider creating a child theme for your customisations. Once your child theme is active, we should be able to help with the customisation.

    This should sort out the header, in the child themes style.css add:

    #branding {
        background: transparent;
    	border-top: none;
        padding-bottom: 0;
    }
    #site-title,
    #site-description {
    	display: none;
    }

    input#s {
    	background: #fff;
    }

    First try the different post formats and see if any of these work for the wide post and page!

    If you are not using a sidebar on any pages then you can add:

    .singular #content {
        margin: 0 2.6%;
        position: relative;
        width: auto;
    }
    .singular .entry-header,
    .singular .entry-content,
    .singular footer.entry-meta,
    .singular #comments-title {
        margin: 0 auto;
        width: 98.9%;
    }

    WARNING: This will affect all pages and posts, so page.php and single.php should not have sidebar calls.

    For the pages and posts if you want sidebars on some, you would need to create new files and template page, and add wider styles in thier own right.

    Fantastic, I don't use the sidebar's only the footer area so that has worked exactly the way I wanted it. Is there any way to move the content up a bit as there is a bit of a white gap bewteen the bottom of the nav bar before the content actually starts??

    Try!

    .singular.page .hentry {
        padding: 1em 0 0;
    }

    Spot on, you sir are a genius!

    Seriously though I really appreciate that, I can do a lot of stuff by editing code and such but actually creating and understanding CSS and such is something I have never picked up lol

    Thanks a lot.

    @Word101

    twenty eleven has a page template for static pages with sidebar;

    assign this to each page:
    in tha dashboard:
    'edit page'
    under 'page attributes'
    in the 'template' dropdown
    select 'sidebar template'
