Edit HTML, not CSS (3 posts)

I'm having great difficulty in locating HTML in WordPress files. I'm doing fine with Firebug and changing

      css
here and there. And with Firebug I can alter HTML, but finding it in wp let alone changing it for real is impossible!

For instance, in WP twentyeleven I'd like to change the words "This entry was posted in" in a post into something else. Just an example.

In the Codex I can read that you just have to search yourself through all files, but I just can't find it.
Help is greatly appreciated, this has been keeping me busy for weeks now.

WP uses dynamically generated HTML - so it's not like static HTML. What you see in Firebug is generated HTML - the browser does that each time you load a page. Some of the HTML comes from php template files, some from functions.php and also other places such as plugins.

Be sure that you are not modifying any theme files directly - you should be using a Child Theme for modifications:

Thank you WPyogi. I am using childthemes.

Still, the static text "This enty was posted in" of, another example, "Recent Posts" in a sidebar, must be <span style=text-decoration:underline>somewhere</span>?
I'd like to change that text, but I just can't find it.
    Any clues?
