ecto and WP 1.5: to post as non-admin?

I would like to post to my WordPress 1.5-blog through ecto not only as ‘site admin’ (level=10 in WP), but also, alternatively, as some ‘user’/’author’ (just to have another (nick)name) — ‘users’ or ‘authors’ max out at level 8 in WP, though.

So it seems there is a problem to post with ecto to WP with an username/password that has less than admin-status on the WP-side (ecto gives me a ‘bad login/pass combo’-alert; the developer of ecto, adriaan, tells me that ecto just relays this message coming from WP). Is this true? Can here anything be done? Would be great …
