• Hi
I’m fairly new at this so please bear with me.
I run a WordPress site as a website rather than a blog.
I would like to have another WordPress website as a testbed for themes & alternate designs.
I checked out the ‘jonradio Multiple Themes’ plugin but this doesn’t seem to work as I expected since if activate a new theme for a particular page it affects all other pages as well.
I looked at the multisite option tutorials and it I find it pretty confusing to say the least.
I have looked at my Host and wonder whether it would be best to create a sub-domain there but if so does this mean that I can install and use a separate installation of WordPress with its own theme, menus, widgets etc?
    Help appreciated.

  • Yes.. I think what you want is a subdomain. This will allow you to run a separate instance of WP… different plugins… different theme… different database.

This is the way I run my test sites for development. My main site has the “live” content… and my subdomain is used to test the updates of all plugins and WP before I run the update on my live site.

Is this what you are wanting to do?

Yes, that’s what I want. I just wasn’t sure whether creating a sub-domain on my host would allow a separate WordPress installation.
But if that’s what you’re doing then it seems to be the way to go.
    Thanks for your help

    You bet!

Yep. That’s what I do. And not only that… but you can create unlimited sub-domains (host permitting)… and use them however you like.

So, you can have www.test1.mysite.com and www.test2.mysite.com and… well… you get the idea.

And each one can have it’s separate WP installation and database. COOL, HUH?? 😉
