    I've followed the install directions to the best of my ability but am still getting errors when I try to load word press. I don't know if it's an error on my part or if it's on my providers end..

    I'm using Earthlink as my hosting company and when I ask tech support, they claim to support wordpress. However, their tech support is pretty crappy and even when I ask specific questions about php, mySQL versions, they do not answer me, they just say, yes we support wordpress.

    How can I tell if they meet the requirements without having to rely on tech support to tell me??

    Is anyone familiar enough with crappy earthlink to know if they meet the requirements?

    I'm probably being lazy by not switching providers, it might be time.

    thanks.

    this is what I see when I load mydomain.com/wordpress/wp-login.php

    <?php
    /**
    * WordPress User Page
    *
    * Handles authentication, registering, resetting passwords, forgot password,
    * and other user handling.
    *
    * @package WordPress
    */

    /** Make sure that the WordPress bootstrap has run before continuing. */
    require( dirname(__FILE__) . '/wp-load.php' );

    // Redirect to https login if forced to use SSL
    if ( force_ssl_admin() && !is_ssl() ) {
    if ( 0 === strpos($_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'], 'http') ) {
    wp_redirect(preg_replace('|^http://|', 'https://', $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI']));
    exit();
    } else {
    wp_redirect('https://' . $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'] . $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI']);
    exit();
    }
    }

    /**
    * Outputs the header for the login page.
    *
    * @uses do_action() Calls the 'login_head' for outputting HTML in the Log In
    * header.
    * @uses apply_filters() Calls 'login_headerurl' for the top login link.
    * @uses apply_filters() Calls 'login_headertitle' for the top login title.
    * @uses apply_filters() Calls 'login_message' on the message to display in the
    * header.
    * @uses $error The error global, which is checked for displaying errors.
    *
    * @param string $title Optional. WordPress Log In Page title to display in
    * <title/> element.
    * @param string $message Optional. Message to display in header.
    * @param WP_Error $wp_error Optional. WordPress Error Object
    */
    function login_header($title = 'Log In', $message = '', $wp_error = '') {
    global $error, $is_iphone;

    // Don't index any of these forms
    add_filter( 'pre_option_blog_public', create_function( '$a', 'return 0;' ) );
    add_action( 'login_head', 'noindex' );

    if ( empty($wp_error) )
    $wp_error = new WP_Error();
    ?>
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" <?php language_attributes(); ?>>
    <head>

    there's more code but I cut it short for brevity's sake
