E Mail confermation new sign ups

Can you please tell me how do I set up for new members, when they first register, receive an e mail that they have to click a link to confirm that their e mail address is correct.
Once they confirm their e mail I would like for them to automatically receive a second e mail welcoming them to the site and telling them of our services.
