Dynamic Top Story "Ticker"-- is it even possible? (5 posts)

I have a client that loves WordPress and I have been doing some preliminary research to see if the website they want is possible in WordPress.

What they want is a feature marquee that is dynamically populated with stories assigned to the "feature" category. Now normally this wouldn't be an issue and it seems pretty trivial but this is where the shenanigan begin.

They want a feature marquee section like the Top Stories section you see on Bungie.net or Tomshardware.com. I.E. the top four or five stories dynamically rotate an when you rollover one of them you get that story's short summary and title and associated image.

Is this possible? I know I'm going to need javascript but I don't even know if this even possible to route through WordPress dynamically. If anyone has any idea if I can do this and would be willing to help I'd be greatly appreciative. I would be able to compensate you if it turns out to be possible but insanely hard to do.

    Thanks,
    ALR

Ack, the FeatPlug is so close to what I need it hurts. Unfortunately I need to have 4 story headlines on the side (like on Bungie.net's top story section).

This is so infuriating. I don't even think it's possible.

    Be inspired, not infuriated! :)

How commercial is your project? Ask yourself. Maybe you can funnel a cut of your client's pay, over to the featplug developer so they can make it work for your purposes. Better yet convince someone there's a great community desire for this, and they should add the features/size you need for free. :)

The Options theme has a version of smoothgallery that posts images only when they are in a 'features' category. Here's the link to the theme: http://justintadlock.com/archives/2008/02/24/options-wordpress-theme and the documentation for how to setup the auto gallery is here: http://justintadlock.com/wordpress/options/features-gallery
