Support » Plugin: Duplicator - WordPress Migration & Backup Plugin » Duplicator not working with the main domain…

Okay, just when I thought I got things figured out, something else arises. I’ve been cloning without any issue my subdomains that have wordpress in it. However, when it comes to my main domain, the duplicator is not working. You can see the status bar working for several minutes. Then it’ll disappear as if complete. But there is no package/installer set in the list. I tried deactivating other plugins due to possible plugin conflicts, that didn’t help. I updated wordpress to 3.5.2, that didn’t help. The duplicator is the latest 4.4.

I went back into one of my other subdomain websites to see if it will still create a package because maybe the hosting server is having issues. But it created a package like always, no problem. It’s just not working in my main domain. My main domain is basically the public_html folder.

My main domain contents is not important to me, but I wanted to clone it just in case. Any clues?

BTW, there is this wp-snapshots folder in my public_html folder. When I go into it, I do see thee zip packages that I tried to create. I see a bunch of them for the bunch of times I tried. They just don’t show up in the wordpress admin.

Okay, I have a feeling this is what’s happening. When clicking on the pre-zip size. I get something very enormous. So I think it’s trying package everything in the root which includes all my other subdomains. And the hosting serving is just timing out.

I see something called the directory filter. I’m suppose to use that to exclude my subdomains, right?

Am I on the right track?

    Hey siratfus,

Have you had a look at these links:

    Duplicator Quick Start
    Duplicator User Guide
    Duplicator FAQ

If your doing allot of experimentation just be sure you have backups of all your data. The best way to try out these scenarios is to setup a development environment and try the different strategies. I haven’t played with all the scenarios so I’m not 100% sure how they will all fall into line…

    Cheers~

Hi Cory, I gave up on figuring why it wouldn’t work on the main domain since the content wasn’t important to me.

But I’m curious about something, and wondering if you can answer this. What if we just created a folder instead of a subdomain? So instead of newsite.example.com, it would be example.com/newsite. What happens if you run the installer in the newsite folder? Will you have a website within a website? Or will that completely wipeout the example.com website?

    Hey siratfus,

Never really tried that scenario so I’m not 100% sure. I’m sure with some tweaks to your web server you could make it work just like a sub-domain. If you do try it be sure to use a non-production environment as I’m not sure of the results…
