• Hi WordPress Crew,

I have an image gallery that is assocated to the “Retail Scales” page with an image called “Mettler Toledo 8442”, there is also a subpage of Retail Scales named “Mettler Toledo 8442”. Essentially I have two items with the same permalink, I want the page to appear and not the image.

It seems media items are given priority over pages, I would have assumed this should be reversed. How can I modify the permalink of the image to resolve this issue. Can duplicate permalink checking of pages and media be introduced in the next release?

Thanks! Look forward to a fix soon 🙂

  • Media should be priority over pages ???? Media is “pages” i.e. html. Its all html.

As for duplicate wotsits – why not use a better naming convention in first place to avoid conflicts.

    Hi Hotkee,

The problem is there is no way to rename the permalink for a media item within the WordPress administration. If you’re correct in stating that a WordPress “Page” is the same as a WordPress “Media” object then both should have permalink renaming facilities and duplicate permalink detection before publishing the Page or Media.

This isn’t an easy concept to get across, did this help?

anyone figure this out? this is truly frustrating.

I’m with you. I have a page with patterns I’ve created, and as I’m getting more than a few now I wanted each pattern to have its own sub-page under Patterns instead. I came across this exact same issue because the pattern file had the same name as the page. It’s not like I can rename either as my users wouldn’t be able to find the download file or the page.

My solution is going to be moving everything in the media library to somewhere else on the server and updating my links. Essentially, until there is a way to change the permalinks or the way that the media library works, I’m not going to use it.
