   So, unfortunately.. what I have done is put the original home page in the trash and now it does not show up under the 'Pages' tab, so I can't edit it. However, when I go to my site there are duplicate 'Home' page tabs. And on top of that the first one that comes up has the original 'greetings' message. Help please!

   Sounds like you have a page called "Home" plus another page set in Settings/Reading for the Home page.
