Duplicate Categories When Manual Posting (2 posts)

    My client regularly posts to his WordPress blog which I maintain. For awhile now, I've struggled to find out why WP is duplicating categories. For instance, if he posts to an existing category, WP creates a new category with the same name, but appends a unique number to the slug.

    Can't figure out why. Can anyone help?

    Have you replicated the issue at your end or have you used a screenshare program to watch him assign a category to a post?

    i.e. I wonder if he's actually checking off an existing category or perhaps he's adding a new category with the same name, by mistake, which would cause the result you're seeing?

    If user error has been ruled out and you can replicate the issue, here are some troubleshooting ideas:

    Have you tried creating a new user with the same level (i.e. Subscriber, Editor, etc.) as he has, to rule out some user-level issue?

    Have you tried turning off all plug-ins to rule out some kind of conflict?

    Have you tried reinstalling WP manually?
