    Hi Guys,

I have like a really dumb question.

I’m kind of embarrassed to even ask this. I know the upgrade came out. I didn’t use the script. I used FTP to upload all the new files to the said directories and I made sure things went into the right places.

Is it like mandatory to run that upgrade script? or No? It shows that new version, 2.2.3 at the bottom of the screen on the administration page. But does that indeed mean that the full upgrade is in fact installed?

I know that me asking this, makes me look like a total idiot. and trust me, when it comes to computers. I’m pretty swift. I’m just kind new to the shared hosting and WordPress thing. I’m learning as I go here.

So, am I square? or do I need run the script?

Thanks guys, I feel like such an nimrod for asking this stuff…

  • If you run the script it just tells you that the database doesn’t need to be upgraded, so I’m pretty sure — especially give that you’re seeing the 2.2.3 at the bottom — that you’re okay.

With other upgrades your site might have just tanked, however.

Thanks man, whew! I’m glad to hear that. 🙂

(wordpress people, feel free to add this to future releases of wordpress upgrades…)

I learned some things today, VERY valuable lessons:

    1. DO NOT, under NO circumstances attempt a blog software upgrade, when you are half asleep and haven’t had your normal daily intake of caffeine or coffee. (or Both…)

    2. If you do you upgrade via FTP, like I did, don’t just fire up smart ftp, extract files locally, and then ftp the files to your “public_Html” Directory, they are not artificial intelligence, they do not know where to go, by themselves! They will create directories in the wrong places and you will delete the wrong ones and nuke your blog… (like I did.)

    3. Before you upgrade, read the instructions! Just because you’re a guy, have a hairy back and are 30-something, have been tinkering with computers since Christ was a corporeal, doesn’t mean that you know jack squat about WordPress, Shared Hosting and FTP.

I intend to include that in my book about Blogging.

Try doing 850+ of them across 44 servers. 🙂
